PostSubject: When to disclose medical condition?   Fri May 23, 2008 5:38 am

Dear Fancy, I am dating a guy pretty seriously. We see each other often and I see this leading to a even more serious relationship. The problem is I take prozac daily for anxiety. At what point, and how, should I tell my boyfriend about my medical condition.Or should I just assume he'll find the bottle in the medicine cabinet when he gets a headache?
Thanks Fancy , Scared

Dear Scared,
Alot depends on what you mean by serious. If you mean that you will be with this man daily, or almost daily, for a significant period, with the possibility that it will be for the rest of your lives, you should certainly tell him. You will both be more free with each other if he knows. You will not have to try to hide your condition or make up false explanations of it. He will understand you better if he knows.Fancy believes honesty is always the best policy. Certainly if you plan on staying with this man for the long haul. He will understand you better if he knows. And he may be able to help by showing you sympathetic and understanding behavior. If he can't accept that, you should consider whether you want a "more serious relationship" with him.

Thanks for Reading , Fancy

You need to decide when you feel comfortable letting him in on something very personal to you. This, however, is a great way to show him that you care for him and want him involved in who and what you are. A guy that supports and tries to understand your condition will be able to help you in ways that will benefit you both throughout life. However, if he reacts badly, just take a break and decide if you want someone in your life who can't comprehend what you deal with. Ultimately, the decision is always yours. Very Happy Good luck!
