Well moms boyfriend had a light stroke a few days ago. Spent 4 days in hospital. Came home yesterday. Has a little trouble talking and walking.
Doctor said he should recover in a few months.
I've been busy helping shuttle them around and picking up perscriptions, also mowing lawn, setting up watering etc..... what a pain.
He's 79yo and mom is 81yo. Looks like I'll be over there alot now doing all the little things.

Sorry to hear of the stroke Blue , My gran had one too when visiting me once in florida. Was a real scare , after her being in hospital 4 days she came home. Her face was a bit droopy on one side and she was slower on one side of her body. After a few months she did get better but not 100%. There is hope .
So mom has a boyfriend? 81 years young I see , you go mom!!! I hope all gets easier real fast! You are a good son Blue , Not all children care enough to help when needed.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom's b/f stroke. Yes, there is hope, some do recover 100% with time. My Grandmother had one, she was never able to recover much use on the right side, she wasn't able to talk well either but they said hers had been a bad one. If he is up walking and talking, even if slowly, he has a good chance I think.
It's good you are close so you can help them out and it's really good of you to do it too. I agree with Cher, not all children help like you are.
I also agree with her - you go Mom!

I didn't know what term to use.. maybe partner? or life friend? dunno.
They've been together since I was around 12. I'm 48 now. They just never got married.

Wow, really sorry to hear that Blue. Hope things get better soon for you all. I am sure he is pretty much like a father to you too since he has been around in your's and your mother's life for 36 years. I am sure your mother is feeling some relief having you around to help out with everything.

My mom lives with a man that is not my father- they're not married either. She refers to him as her "companion", so that's what I call him too. Sorry to hear about the stroke - it's always a rough time for everyone involved. Good luck with everything Blue.

Blue, sorry to hear about your Mom's boyfriend. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery. Both of them are very lucky to have you. My hat is off to you for being such a good son and caring individual.

On a side note, you could refer to him as your Mom's significant other...after all those years together, that is what he surely is.

Please take some time to care for yourself as well and try not to wear yourself to thin...you won't be able to be of use to anyone then. Is a visiting nurse possible to relieve some of the burden?
